HCTC's General Manager
Delbert Wilson
As the Texas Hill Country continues to grow and the needs and demographics of its subscriber base evolve, Hill Country Telephone Cooperative, Inc., (HCTC) realizing the importance of broadband availability for rural economic development, has embarked on a mission to make broadband available throughout its service area.

This project will be composed of 533 miles of fiber optic cable with approximately 250 digital loop carriers placed strategically to shorten HCTC’s local customer loops to approximately 7,000 feet. With the shortened local customer loops, bandwidth up to 17-20 Mbps will be achieved. Thus, allowing HCTC the capability to deliver an array of new services and products to its members.
Included in this project is the establishment of an access tandem for the Cooperative’s network. This access tandem switch will be a new Nortel CS1500 Softswitch which will not only give the Cooperative control over its network, but will also create a pathway for the migration of our network toward Internet Protocol.
As the future of telecommunications is unfolding and broadband is the direction, Hill Country Telephone Cooperative, Inc. plans an aggressive modernization of its network to strategically position itself to meet the ever-changing needs of its members today and into the future.
